The life of every child is a gift. Their experiences, both good and bad, are combined
to shape their journey through life. Just as each of us has a story to tell, one that is
unique to our life, the story for foster children is one of brokenness; broken homes,
broken lives and broken hearts.

Reflections of the Heart, a jointly sponsored project between Foster Friends of NC
and the Greensboro Junior League, will bring to life the stories of our community
children by providing a creative outlet through art and writing. The effort, endorsed
by the leadership of Guilford County Department of Social Services, will culminate
in a community exhibit, reception and awards luncheon on Saturday, April 26.

Youth (ages 5 to21) currently or formerly living in foster care in Guilford county
are eligible to participate and submit art or writing. To assist participants and
provide art and writing supplies, we are hosting four Art & Creative Writing
Workshops at New Garden Friends Meeting, 801 New Garden Road, Greensboro
(across from Guilford College). The workshops are free. Time & dates are:

Art & Creative Writing Workshops
February 9  - 2 pm to 4 pm
February 10 - 2 pm to 4 pm

Community artists and writers have been invited to provide inspiration and encouragement, as well as answer questions that the children might have about the creative process. Although this is not intended to be a therapeutic activity, licensed professional counselors and social workers will be present. Any child who is unable to participate in a Workshop may still submit work (double click on Entry & wavier form) and request art and writing supplies from Foster Friends @ 336.834.9919.

All youth who participate in the workshops and/or contribute art or written work will be acknowledged. Top winners in each category (Elementary, Middle School, High School, and Over 18-Young Adult ) will be eligible for cash prizes and will be invited to attend a special Awards Luncheon on Saturday, April 26. Social Worker approval is required for children to participate. The Workshop Application and Entry & Waiver forms can also be accessed by double clicking the icon above. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Lori Wainright, Program Manager, at 336.834.9919 or e-mail me at Lori@fosterfriendsnc.org.
