"Evan's Wish Birthday Program" is a way to create a lasting resource for children in foster care in the Piedmont Triad to be celebrated on their birthdays. FFNC believes that every child in foster care should feel special every day, and especially on his or her birthday. Through its work with children in foster care over the past five years, Foster Friends of North Carolina has learned that there are children in foster care who, for a variety of reasons, have missed out on having their birthdays recognized, sometimes not even receiving a card or being able to enjoy a birthday cake.

The wish of FFNC is that the Evan's Wish Birthday Program will help children in foster care know how special they are and show them that there are people in the community who care about them. Also, we hope that these children will come to see their birthdays as a day to wish for a bright and happy future.

WHO IS EVAN? Evan is a boy who LOVES birthdays. He loves celebrating at all of his friends' birthday parties, and of course he loves having all of his friends come to his own party. In honor of his fourth birthday, Evan's family wanted to do something extra special that would help spread the joy of birthdays to children in foster care who might not otherwise have their special day celebrated.

Children in foster care can benefit from Evan's Wish in two ways. They can request a Birthday Party Package or a Birthday Gift Package.

• Party Wish Packages:  These packages are for children whose foster care placements are interested in throwing a birthday party for the child but who may not be able to provide the supplies necessary for the party. Click here to see what a Party Wish Package includes.The packages will include party supplies, a small gift for the child, and a personalized birthday card.
• Gift Wish Packages:  These packages are for children who either do not want to have a birthday party or who are not in a placement in which they have the opportunity to have a birthday party. The items included in these packages may include a gift related to the child's interests, developmentally-appropriate personal grooming items, a cake, and a personalized birthday card from Foster Friends of North Carolina.

Get a Birthday Wish Package for a Child in Foster Care:  Are you interested in learning how to get a Birthday Wish Package for a child in foster care? Birthday Wish Packages will be available in May 2011, National Foster Care Awareness Month. If you are a foster parent or social worker who will be interested in getting a Birthday Wish Package for a child whose birthday will be in May 2011 or after, please complete the Birthday Wish Nomination Form and mail or fax the completed form to us.

HOW YOU CAN HELP A CHILD IN FOSTER CARE RECEIVE A WISH PACKAGE?

• Donate to the Birthday Warehouse - Download a list of items we need donated for the birthday warehouse.
   
• Birthday Honor Party - Make your childs next birthday an opportunity to honor a child in care by collecting gifts that can be donated to FFNC and used for a foster child's Birthday Party Package or Birthday Gift Package. This is a great way to celebrate your child by contributing to the life of a child who's special day is sometimes never mentioned.
