The "WALKING ON SUNSHINE" General Awards Program provides foster children with access to activities and opportunities that enrich their childhood experience. Applications must be completed and signed by the Child's Case Worker. FFNC General Awards are for children in the custody of Guilford County Department of Social Services. Please allow at least 3 weeks to process the application and expense worksheet.

The award categories are as follows:

ARTS ENRICHMENT
MAX. AWARD = $150.00

Music Lessons, Instrument Rental & Purchase, Band Uniforms, Band Fees, Band & Music Supplies, Art Supplies, Dance Lessons, Dance Equipment, Voice Lessons, etc…  Lessons can be renewed with the submission of a new General Awards Application.

ATHLETICS
MAX. AWARD = $150.00

Soccer, Softball, Baseball, Swimming, Football, Karate (self defense) Gymnastics, Lacrosse, Tennis, Wrestling, Volleyball, Other Team Sports etc. Includes equipment, fees, and team photos. Can be renewed with the submission of a new General Awards Application.

BOY/GIRL SCOUTS
MAX. AWARD = $100.00

Registration Fee, Pack Fees, Uniform, Patches, and Handbook.

CAMPS
MAX. AWARD = $300.00

Summer Camps, Leadership Camps, Art Camps, Church Camps, Day Care Camps, Other Outings & Activities.

EDUCATIONAL
MAX. AWARD = $300.00

Tutoring, School Field Trips, School Supplies, Daycare Activity Fees, Daycare Field Trips, Class Trips, Prom Expenses, Class Photographs, Yearbooks, Related Expenses, etc.

RECREATIONAL
MAX. AWARD = $100.00

Bikes, Helmets, Locks, Scooters (not motorized), Roller Blades, Basketballs, Baseball & Glove, Tennis Racquet, Volleyball Nets & Volleyballs, Skateboards, etc.

SENIOR EXPENSES
MAX. AWARD = $200.00

Senior Photos, Cap & Gown, Invitations, Name Cards, Ads in Yearbook, Class Rings, etc.

SPECIAL NEEDS
MAX. AWARD = $300.00

Hair Care Needs*, Family Trips, Eye Glasses, Lenses, Items Not Covered by Medicaid, Special Ear Plugs for Hearing Impaired, etc. Any special need exceeding the maximum award amount will go before the full board for a vote.

AWARD GUIDELINES & ITEMS NOT FUNDED

Applications must be completed and signed by the Child’s Case Worker. FFNC General Awards are for children in the custody of Guilford County Department of Social Services. Camps are funded for one week or for the duration of a special camp or retreat. Lesson applications need to be resubmitted fore each session (usually a 3 month period).

* Hair care refers to a child with specific hair needs not a basic cut or trim.

More than two applications for the same child received in less than 30 days or applications totaling an amount greater than $525.00 will go before the FFNC Board of Advisors for approval.
