Foster Friends of North Carolina would like to know "Who Mentored Who?" Through JOURNEYS©, our foster youth mentoring program, we have seen foster children grow into more responsible, sensitive, young adults through the support of their mentor role models – we've also witnessed adults whose lives were deeply enriched by such a meaningful relationship. The youth gain skills and tools to support them in their path to becoming productive adults, while the mentors gain a new sense of being by connecting to the lives of their mentees.
What are your mentoring memories? Those memories are not necessarily from a structured mentoring relationship, they can take many forms: neighbors, coaches, students, co-workers, just to name a few. Search your soul and take a moment to appreciate a person who made an impact on your life.
Did your grandma show you the way in the kitchen and guide you into womanhood? Was there once a child in your life that you mentored, that taught you a thing or two about life? How about the coach that motivated you to work hard?
Foster Friends of North Carolina will post the mentoring memories on this website, and our final goal is to collect the memories into a published book that will inspire others to become mentors. In appreciation of your generosity, those of you that submit a memory that is posted on our site will be invited to the 5 Year Celebration of Foster Friends that will be held in August 2010.
